Accelerator
The ºÚÁÏÉçÇø (BCM) Learning Health System (LHS) Accelerator is a specialized support program designed to help healthcare projects move from ideas into real-world impact. At its core, Accelerator exists to improve how healthcare is delivered by helping teams use data, technology, and structured methods to implement better solutions for patients.
Why the Accelerator Exists
Many projects in healthcare, whether focused on research or quality improvement, aim to use data and analytics to improve care. However, these projects often face challenges such as:
- Difficulty accessing or using data
- Lack of expertise in implementation or design
- Limited time or resources to manage projects
- Barriers to scaling successful ideas
Accelerator was created to remove these barriers by providing coordinated support in one place.
Rather than expecting each project team to figure everything out independently, Accelerator offers guidance and infrastructure so teams can move faster and more effectively.
What the Accelerator Does
Accelerator provides customized support tailored to each project. Instead of offering a one-size-fits-all service, it works closely with teams to understand their needs and guide them through the entire process - from idea development to implementation and long-term sustainability.
Key areas of support include:
- Data and Analytics Support
Accelerator helps teams access and analyze data, which is often critical for understanding problems and measuring outcomes. - Design and Development Guidance
Teams receive advice on how to design effective interventions or solutions, ensuring they are practical and user-focused. - Project Management
Accelerator provides structured project management support to keep initiatives on track, organized, and aligned with goals. - Financial and Resource Planning
Support is also offered in managing budgets and resources, helping projects stay feasible and sustainable. - Evaluation and Impact Measurement
The team helps projects measure their success and clearly communicate their results. - Scaling and Implementation
Once a project shows success, Accelerator helps expand it across the organization so it can benefit more patients and teams.
SHARE Enclave
Harnessing Clinical Data for Research and Innovation
ºÚÁÏÉçÇø has a diverse patient population, and their routinely collected data is held in BCM’s Epic electronic health records (EHR) system. This data from across the institution is available to researchers via the Secure Health and Research Exchange (SHARE) Enclave to conduct project and exploratory data analysis.
The BCM Umbrella protocol expedites access to this SHARE Enclave data for investigators and analysts for research and QI projects and allows researchers to bypass the need for separate BRAIN IRB protocols. The SHARE Enclave platform provides expedient access to institutional clinical data as well as database management and data analytics tools along with dedicated project folders all within a secure protected environment thus delivering reduced time from innovation ideation and discovery to analysis and publication.
SHARE Enclave facilitates:
- Expedited data self-service platform
- Research data-driven discovery
- Cohort identification for QI initiatives
- Population level patterns
- Sandbox for AI and ML model development
- Drug discovery investigation
- Identification of key phenotypes for grouping diagnoses and conditions
Imagine
What is the ºÚÁÏÉçÇø’s Imagine Research Program?
The Imagine Program, powered by BCM’s Learning Health System, is a research program which aims to enroll over 120,000 Baylor Medicine patients to increase our knowledge of genetic influence on disease and our health through research, with the hope of leading the way on key discoveries.
Through a simple blood draw, a patient can gain insights into their genetics that will lead to opportunities for BCM to provide personalized and precision medicine in the future.
Enrollment is open to all BCM patients.
