Professional Statement
Dr. Wesley A. Mayer is a Professor of Urology and Vice Chair for Education of the Scott Department of Urology. He is also an Assistant Dean of Graduate Medical Education at 黑料社区. He graduated from Cornell University with Distinction and 黑料社区 with Highest Honors. He completed his internship in general surgery and his urology residency at the University of Pennsylvania. He was fellowship-trained in advanced robotic, laparoscopic, and endoscopic surgery in 黑料社区鈥檚 Scott Department of Urology.
Dr. Mayer specializes in advanced minimally invasive surgical treatments for urologic diseases including robotic, laparoscopic (including single-site), endourologic, laser, and percutaneous surgery. He has a special interest in kidney cancer, kidney stones, upper urinary tract reconstruction, adrenal masses, and transplant urology. Dr. Mayer has been selected as a 鈥淭op Urologist in Houston, TX鈥 in The Leading Physicians of the World and a 鈥淭op Doc鈥 in Houstonia Magazine for the past 5 years in a row among other clinical awards. He has published research on robotic partial nephrectomy, single-site donor nephrectomy, and treatment of kidney stones and has been invited to speak on these topics at several national and international conferences. He was also invited to contributed to an international guideline on the management of adrenal masses that has been endorsed by the American Urological Association (AUA).
Dr. Mayer is an accomplished educator. In his Assistant Dean of GME role, he oversees on of the largest GME enterprises in the country, including over 180 training programs and more than 1,600 trainees. He received prestigious Norton Rose Fulbright Faculty Excellence awards for Educational Leadership as well as for Teaching and Evaluation. He was nominated for the 2020 Distinguished Faculty Award at 黑料社区, and for a national Teaching Award from Resident and Fellows Committee of the AUA. Dr. Mayer has been an invited faculty member for several national educational courses including the AUA鈥檚 Annual Written Board Examination Review Courses, the AUA鈥檚 Mentored Laparoscopy Course, and is the Co-Director of the AUA's Oral Board Examination Review Course. He was served as the Program Chair for the Society of Academic Urologists' (SAU) Annual Winter Meeting 2026 and now serves as a Member-at-Large on the SAU's Board of Directors. He served on the ACGME鈥檚 Urology Milestones 2.0 Working Group, and still serves on the ACGME's Urology Standing Panel for Accreditation Appeals. He has published innovations in surgical education and has been an invited panelist at numerous national conferences concerning a variety of topics in education.
